Are dental implants right for me?

If you have lost one or more teeth due to periodontal disease, trauma, or another cause, dental implants may be the solution. With dental implants, the person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat the food they enjoyed before and can smile with confidence, knowing that their teeth appear natural.

The implants themselves are surgically placed titanium posts that are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as a substitute for tooth roots. The bone then bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts that protrude slightly above the gums are then attached to the implant. These provide stable anchors for the replacement teeth.

There are different types of prosthesis and dental implant solutions for each case. A replacement tooth or crown is used to replace one missing tooth. This is where each prosthetic tooth attaches to its own implant.

- A partial prosthesis or fixed bridge can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three implants.

- A complete dental prosthesis replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. This includes the All-on-4® treatment concept, available at Mountaineer Periodontics.

- The removable prosthesis attaches to a bar or ball in socket attachments, whereas a fixed prosthesis is permanent and removable only by a professional.
