Does It Hurt?

When considering dental implants, the most common question we get is, does it hurt? While everyone is different, most people feel only mild discomfort after the procedure, but actual pain is not common.

Dental implants are placed within your jawbone. That sounds much scarier than it actually is. While we surgically place the implants you will feel pressure and vibrations from the drill but no pain. When the numbness wears off most patients say it wasn’t nearly as bad as they thought it would be.

Healing time following dental implant surgery varies with each patient and is based on a variety of factors, such as hardness of bone.

For three to six months following dental implant surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums, gradually bonding with the jawbone. This phase doesn’t hurt at all and you won’t even realize it’s happening.

The entire procedure from consultation to completion usually takes six to eight months, and most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

At Mountaineer Periodontics our entire staff is committed to giving you the best patient experience possible. Reach out to us with further questions. We would love to hear from you.
